Building vibrant, loving, caring, welcoming and inclusive Christian communities.
The Diocesan Bishop of Texas, the Rt. Rev. C. Andrew (Andy) Doyle, has arrived in Liberia for a weeklong visit as a guest of the Episcopal Church of Liberia. His visit comes at the invitation of the Rt. Rev. Dr. James B. Sellee, Bishop of the Episcopal Church of Liberia.
This marks Bishop Doyle’s first visit to Liberia, and he is expected to engage in a series of significant activities during his stay. He will meet with senior officers and clergy of the Episcopal Church of Liberia, visit Cuttington University in Suakoko, Bong County, and deliver the missionary sermon at the opening of the 89th Diocesan Convention of the Episcopal Church of Liberia.
The convention, scheduled for March 7-9, will take place at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County.
Bishop Doyle’s visit is expected to further strengthen the relationship between the two dioceses, a bond that was reinforced when he and Bishop Sellee met at the 15th Lambeth Conference in Kent, UK, in 2022. The Lambeth Conference is a global gathering of Anglican bishops held every ten years.
The Episcopal Church of Liberia and the Diocese of Texas share historical ties dating back to the 1980s when the Rev. Emmanuel D. Hodges studied at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest (ETSS) in Austin, Texas. The Rev. Dr. Dee Wellington Bright followed in the 1990s, also studying at ETSS and serving in various churches during and after his time there. More recently, the Rev. Edward Thompson has been canonically resident in the Diocese of Texas since 2017.
Bishop Doyle’s presence in Liberia is expected to deepen these long-standing bonds and enhance collaboration between the Episcopal Church of Liberia and the Diocese of Texas.
The installation has taken place in Monrovia of the Dean of the National Cathedral, Episcopal Church of Liberia. The Very Reverend Canon A-Too Williams was inducted as Dean of the Church of the Holy Trinity Cathedral on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at an elaborate ceremony attended by Episcopalians and Christians from all walks of life.
